Description
American Buffalo 1 oz (United States Mint)
At the moment, the American Buffalo is the most beautiful investment gold coin in production across the world. It has been in circulation since 2006, with a new design with each new edition every year. This gold coin is the first investment gold coin made in the United States with a purity of 999.9/1000.
The design of the American Buffalo coin is a modified version of the Indian Head coin, released in 1913 and created by the noted sculptor James Earl Fraser. When it comes to American coins, Fraser’s designs are considered to be among the best. It is a highly sought after item among collectors.
The Native American portrait featured on the front of the coin honors the legacy of America’s first inhabitants. Fraser created this portrait using the images from his prior portrait work of three Native Indian chiefs–Big Tree, Iron Tail, and Two Moons. Along with the portrait, there is an engraving inscribed “Liberty” and an “F.” for Fraser’s signature. The reverse side of the coin features an image of an American Buffalo standing on an earth mound and it’s inscribed with “E pluribus unum,” along with a stated 50 dollar nominal value and the year of production. A 1-ounce gold coin represents a standard in this category of investment gold.
The United States Mint is the official federal mint of the United States of America. Along with dollar coins currently in circulation, it is responsible for the production of gold coins and commemorative medals. The mint was established in 1792 in Philadelphia, and currently operates out of three branches–in Denver, San Francisco and West Point.
